First Trade: Nifty opens higher by 40 points; NLC India up over 7%
Indian stock market in Tuesday's trade (May 20, 2025) opened higher tracking positive Asian market cues. The BSE Sensex opened at 82,116.17, higher by 56.75 points or 0.07 per cent, and the NSE Nifty50 added 50.75 points or 0.2 per cent to 24,996.20. Meanwhile, broader markets traded on a cautious note, with both the midcap and smallcap gauge slipping in early trade.
The high beta Bank Nifty index also traded with a minor drag.
From the Nifty50 basket, the top gainers included stocks like Hindalco, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Infosys and Tech Mahindra, while laggards included stocks like Power Grid Corporation, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Auto, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Cipla.
Metal and IT indices led the gains followed by the FMCG basket, however, all other sectoral sectors saw selling pressure, with realty, media and pharms stocks leading the losses.

Avantel Ltd: Right Issue to close with the issue price pegged at Rs 40. The investor as part of the issue will be eligible to get 10 shares for every 121 shares.
NLC India: After posting stellar results, the PSU company posted remarked gains of over 7 per cent in early trade.
Asian markets in Tuesday's trade drifted higher with China taking the lead as Beijing took to rate cuts on expected lines. The key MSCI Index Asia ex Japan index traded higher by 0.37 per cent.
Gold prices in Tuesday's trade in the spot market internationally traded with a cut of 0.6 per cent at $3,212.26 per ounce.
Oil prices traded higher on signs of faltering US-Iran talks. At the last count, the WTI crude futures were up over 1 per cent at $62.69 per bbl, while the Brent crude futures were up 0.2 per cent at $65.54 per bbl.
