Fatal Motorcycle Crash Closes Manchester Airport Link Road for Hours

A major route near Manchester Airport was shut down for hours on Sunday, April 26, after a fatal motorcycle crash on the Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road (A555).

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and an air ambulance, swiftly responded, cordoning off the area and halting traffic in both directions.

Nearby routes, including Woodford Road, were also closed, causing significant congestion as authorities managed the scene.

The closure stretched between the A5149 Chester Road and A523 Macclesfield Road, with motorists advised to avoid the area entirely.

Traffic remained at a standstill for several hours, as emergency responders carried out operations and gradually diverted vehicles.

Images from the scene showed long queues and delays throughout the afternoon.

Later, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a male motorcyclist in his 30s died in what was determined to be a single-vehicle collision.

The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry and is appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage to aid the investigation, as efforts continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
