Fashion Forward: Stella Jean Transforms Haiti's Football Jersey into High Fashion Statement!

Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean has launched “L’Haitiana,” a captivating series of special-edition hand-stitched football jerseys for the Haiti national football club. This collection masterfully blends sport heritage with high-fashion structural tailoring, creating designs that are as much a statement about identity and history as they are about clothing. The project is seen as a powerful collision of fashion and football, driven by genuine cultural intention, designed to stop people in their tracks.
The collection features distinctive looks, each meticulously detailed. One ensemble pairs a deep burgundy athletic polo shirt, emblazoned with “HAÏTI” in white block lettering across the chest, with a voluminous black-and-white dotted jacquard peplum. This flows gracefully into a calf-length pencil skirt featuring a cream-and-black zebra stripe pattern. The look is completed with oversized, bright orange tassel earrings and pointed-toe kitten heels adorned with a red-and-white textile strap. Another prominent design uses a royal blue jersey with an orange collar and white shoulder panels as its foundation. This is layered over a white lace midi skirt, which boasts a multi-tiered flounced peplum and is cinched at the waist with a red-and-white checkered band. The skirt’s sheer open-weave lace subtly reveals a woven illustration of a traditional figure carrying a basket, a detail that rewards closer inspection. A third featured look showcases the royal blue L’Haitiana Haiti football jersey paired with a bright orange gathered bubble waist and a metallic blue and gold brocade midi skirt.
Stella Jean described “L’Haitiana” as a heartfelt love letter to Haiti, emphasizing that every hand stitch carries significant purpose related to education, empowerment, and cultural pride. The number 26, prominently featured on the back of the jerseys, symbolizes a year of rebirth. Furthermore, the collection celebrates Haiti’s return to football’s biggest stage after a 52-year hiatus. Jean eloquently articulated the collection’s profound message: “From one of the most fragile peripheries of the map, l’Haitiana’s jersey steps into the spotlight, not with the backing of great capitals, but with the quiet strength of its culture and purpose.”
This endeavor is not the first instance where the Haitian-Italian designer has utilized sport as a canvas for Caribbean storytelling. Earlier in the year, Stella Jean crafted hand-painted uniforms for Haiti’s historic debut at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. These uniforms were unique, being the only ones at the Games painted entirely by hand. They drew inspiration from the work of Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrié, featuring a vivid depiction of a riderless red horse galloping through lush tropical foliage, further cementing her commitment to infusing cultural narratives into high-profile athletic events.
