Farewell to a Legend: Tom Kane, Voice of Iconic 'Star Wars' & 'Powerpuff Girls' Characters, Dies at 64

Tom Kane, a celebrated voice actor renowned for his iconic contributions to beloved franchises like “Star Wars” and “Powerpuff Girls,” passed away on Monday at the age of 64. His death was officially announced by his talent agency, Galactic Productions, in a heartfelt statement posted on Facebook.
Galactic Productions honored Kane's profound impact, stating, “Today we say goodbye to Tom Kane — a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world.” The agency emphasized how Kane infused “wisdom, strength, humor and heart to every role he touched,” making his voice an indelible part of countless lives, memories, and stories. The statement concluded with a poignant farewell: “Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories, and love he gave to the world will live on forever. Rest in peace, Tom Kane. Thank you for everything. May the Force be with you, always.”
Throughout his extensive career, Tom Kane lent his distinctive voice to a multitude of memorable characters. In the “Star Wars” universe, he was notably the voice of Yoda in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” among other roles, and Admiral Ackbar in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” He also portrayed Professor Utonium in Cartoon Network’s “The Powerpuff Girls” from 2016 to 2019. Beyond television, Kane's voice enriched numerous video games, including titles from the “Call of Duty” franchise, “Harry Potter: Magic Awakened,” “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,” and “Marvel Future Revolution.”
Kane's journey in voice acting began remarkably early, as he started doing voiceover work at just 15 years old in his hometown of Kansas City. In 2020, his career faced a significant challenge when he suffered a stroke, which severely impacted his ability to speak.
Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, Kane was also remembered as an extraordinary individual and a dedicated family man. The agency's statement highlighted his personal life, noting, “Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family of nine children — three biological and six welcomed through adoption and fostering. That compassion and generosity defined who he was just as much as his remarkable talent did.” Tom Kane is survived by his wife, Cindy, and their nine children.
