Fans Buzzing as Reading & Leeds Festival Teases Major Secret Headliners!

Excitement is building among fans of the Reading and Leeds Festivals for 2025, with widespread speculation about potential secret sets alongside an already star-studded lineup. The twin festivals, known for their unexpected performances, are set to welcome major acts like Travis Scott, Bring Me the Horizon, Hozier, and Chappell Roan for her exclusive UK headline festival appearance. As festival-goers pore over schedules and social media, several bands have emerged as strong contenders for surprise appearances.
Wolf Alice is one of the bands heavily rumored for a secret set. Fans on Reddit have pointed to their fourth studio album, "The Clearing," which is scheduled for release tomorrow, August 22, as a logical reason for their potential performance. The London-formed Brit rock band has generated significant buzz, with many believing their album release aligns perfectly with a surprise festival slot.
Similarly, Australian electronic rock band Pendulum is also a subject of intense speculation. Their upcoming album, "Inertia," is also due for release tomorrow, August 22, and the band is currently on tour. This convergence of a new album and touring schedule has led many on forums to discuss the high probability of Pendulum making an unexpected appearance at the festivals.
Another major act drawing significant attention is The Foo Fighters. Fans were sent into a frenzy after noticing unusual gaps in the festival lineup poster, which they believe could signify a surprise slot. This theory gained further traction when the band itself posted a throwback video on Instagram of their 2019 Reading Festival performance, prompting speculation about a possible hint. While some fans are confident, others remain skeptical, noting that secret sets by such enormous headline bands are rare. The Foo Fighters, fronted by Dave Grohl and formed in 1994, have a long history with the festivals, having headlined multiple times since 2002, and performing in various years including 1995, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2012, and 2019.
Adding to the list of potential surprise acts, electronic duo Chase & Status are also heavily rumored. Speculation began to spread on Reddit about a "something special" happening at 19:30 on the Aux Stage at Reading. This was reportedly "given away" by the festival's official Instagram account, which posted a silhouette of two people adorned with question marks. Many revellers quickly identified the silhouette as resembling Chase & Status, fueling anticipation for their appearance.
However, not all news from the festival front is about secret additions. American rockers House of Protection unfortunately confirmed they will no longer be performing due to financial constraints. The band revealed on Instagram their inability to afford the travel costs, primarily because funding from their scheduled performance at the Heavy Music Awards was cancelled due to serious health issues affecting a key team member. Despite the disappointment, the band assured fans they plan to return to the UK in October to tour with Architects, promising to make it up to those who were looking forward to seeing them at Reading and Leeds.
