Fanmio Faces Massive $5M Payout to Masvidal Over Diaz Fight Dispute
UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal has been awarded a default judgment exceeding $5 million in his lawsuit against Fanmio, the online platform that promoted his 2024 boxing match against Nate Diaz. Florida Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal's request to grant the judgment after an arbitrator had previously awarded the former BMF champion $5,315,268.64, along with additional post-judgment interest stemming from the fight.
Masvidal initiated the lawsuit against Fanmio in January, asserting that his agreement for the fight against Diaz stipulated a $6 million purse, supplemented by an additional $1 million if he secured a victory. Masvidal ultimately lost the fight by decision and subsequently claimed that the only payments he received were a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment. An arbitrator ruled in Masvidal's favor, and with the judge's final sign-off, this particular legal matter has concluded.
However, Fanmio's legal challenges are not limited to Masvidal. Nate Diaz, Masvidal's opponent, filed his own lawsuit against Fanmio just two weeks after Masvidal's suit, alleging that he was owed over $9 million. In Diaz's case, an arbitrator awarded him $6 million, in addition to attorney fees. This lawsuit is still awaiting a final judicial sign-off to be formally concluded.
Adding to the platform's ongoing legal entanglements, Fanmio itself filed a lawsuit in March against Golden Boy Promotions and boxer Ryan Garcia. This dispute concerns a canceled exhibition match featuring Rukiya Anpo, which was originally slated to take place on December 31, 2024. Garcia opted out of this planned event, choosing instead to fight Rolando Romero in May, leading to Fanmio's legal action against him and his promoter.
