Fallowfield Terror: Bomb Scare Prompts Mass Evacuations and Police Update

A major emergency response was initiated in Fallowfield on Saturday night, June 6, after a 'suspicious item' was discovered in a front garden on Abram Close. The incident, reported around 6pm, led to the deployment of a large police cordon that encompassed the residential street. Emergency services, including fire crews, ambulances, and army bomb disposal experts, swiftly converged on the scene.

As a precautionary measure, approximately 20 neighbouring properties were advised to evacuate. Residents were unable to return to their homes until around 11pm that night. Eyewitnesses described the intense activity, with one resident recounting seeing a bomb disposal robot being deployed into the affected property, indicating the seriousness with which the item was being treated.

It was later understood that the suspicious item was a backpack containing bottles filled with an unknown substance, which sparked the extensive emergency call-out. The incident caused considerable concern among the local community, with one resident expressing nervousness, stating, "This is quite a peaceful neighbourhood. This community is really tiny." Another eyewitness described being told to evacuate and witnessing the swift establishment of the cordon, with everyone being pushed back by authorities.

The police cordon remained in place into the early hours of Sunday morning. However, Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Sunday morning that the scene had been safely stood down. A spokesperson updated the public, stating, "The scene has been stood down, package safely removed and an investigation is ongoing into the full circumstances." While the immediate threat was neutralized, a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the backpack and its contents remains underway.
