'F1' Becomes Apple's Highest Grossing Film To Date, Passing Napoleon - mxdwn Movies

Ten days after being released to theaters on June 27, 2025, F1 has already grossed more money than any of the four other movies theatrically released by Apple. The studio’s other theatrical releases include Killers of the Flower Moon, grossing $158 Million, as well as Argylle and Fly Me to the Moon which both grossed under $100 Million.

F1‘s success at the box office comes on the heels of Apple opting to give Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth a direct to Apple TV release, where the film quickly became the top streaming movie on the service with 765.5 Million minutes watched in it’s first weekend. In 2024, Apple also scrapped a theatrical run for Wolfs starring George Clooney and F1‘s Brad Pitt.

Even with the movie’s strong opening, Kosinski’s Top Gun Maverick follow-up still has a long ways to go before becoming profitable for Apple. With the films reported budget of between 200 and 300 Million dollars, it is estimated that the film has to make over half of a billion dollars before breaking even, based on it’s theatrical run alone.

Another obstacle standing in the way of F1‘s profitability is July’s crowded release schedule. Jurassic World: Rebirth won the Fourth of July Weekend at the box office grossing $92 Million domestically, while F1 grossed $25 Million domestically—a 55% drop from it’s opening weekend. With James Gunn’s Superman tracking to open with $135 Million domestically, Apple’s summer blockbuster may be in for another drop off going into it’s third weekend.

Along with becoming the highest grossing film in Apple’s catalog, F1 has also become the most successful opening for a film starring Brad Pitt. The film is currently the tenth highest grossing film of the year worldwide, and will likely be available to stream on Apple TV later this year.
