Exempt BECE candidates from domestic chores - New Juaben North MP
The MP explained that exempting the candidates from domestic duties during the examination period would enable them to better concentrate on the examination.
Nana Osei-Adjei stated that under no circumstance would candidates writing an examination do well when they do not have enough time, particularly during the day, to study because of being engaged in domestic chores by their parents or guardians.
Nana Osei-Adjei gave the advice when he presented mathematical sets to the New Juaben North Education Director, Evelyn Korang, for onward delivery to the candidates writing the BECE in the constituency.
Some of the schools of the candidates are Effiduase Methodist Basic School, Effiduase Presby Basic A and B, Effiduase R/C A and B and Asokore SDA Demonstration A, B and C, among others.
"Tell your parents and guardians to give you only one week's break to study very well to write your exams and pass your BECE examinations without any problem.
"It is your time to excel in the examination.
Replicate what you are taught by your teachers.
It is only your future which is in your hands.
If you write well, you will definitely pass," Nana Osei-Adjei told the BECE candidates.
Making the presentation at the Municipal Directorate of Education at Effiduase, the MP said although last year the overall performance of the candidates at the examinations was 70 per cent, he was targeting 80 per cent success.
The New Juaben North Municipal Education Director, Hilda Amegatcher, for her part, said the MP's gesture would encourage the candidates to do their best at the examination and come out with flying colours.
In a related development, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has presented 2,300 mathematical sets to candidates of this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The candidates are from both public and private basic schools within the constituency, such as the Roman Catholic Cluster of Schools at Srodae, Riis Presby Model A, B and C schools at Betom, Nana Kwaku Boateng Basic School and Methodist Basic School, among others.
The donation formed part of the MP's education initiative to improve the performance of BECE candidates and education in general at all levels.
One significant aspect of the donation was the free distribution of menstrual pads to the female candidates to ensure that they would not miss the examination when in their menstrual period.
Making the presentation to the beneficiaries in their respective schools, the MP said the gesture formed part of his avowed commitment towards the pursuit of quality education in the area, particularly at the basic level.
Mr Baafi told the candidates to reflect soberly on all that their teachers had taught them and what they had also learnt and write the examination with confidence.
"I want you to secure several sixs, sevens, eights and nines to qualify for your preferred choices of senior high schools, to make me and your parents proud.
"I have contributed my quota to the development of education and also to encourage the young pupils to study hard and pass very well for the betterment of the future of the pupils," Mr Baafi told the candidates.
The headmistress of Riis Presby Model A, B and C Basic Schools, Mrs Deborah Afumoah Nyarko, Felicia Antwi and Vera Larbi, stated that although the school had, over the years, been performing well at the BECE, the donation would be of tremendous benefit since some of the parents of the candidates would be having difficulties in acquiring the items at this crucial period.
They advised the candidates not to get involved in any form of malpractice at the examination to avoid the cancellation of their papers.
