Ex-IGP Group Fires Back at Governor Sule: Nasarawa Is Not Personal Property!

A political support group, the Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement, has expressed strong disapproval of Governor Abdullahi Sule's recent remarks regarding his intention to hand over Nasarawa State to Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. Governor Sule, during a recent meeting with stakeholders of a support group at the Government House in Lafia, openly declared his full ownership of what he termed the “Wadada Project” for the upcoming 2027 elections. He was quoted saying, “If anybody calls it the Wadada Project, indeed, this is my project. The reason is that I will be the happiest human being on earth the day I hand over the leadership of this state to Wadada.”

However, the Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement found the governor's expression deeply troubling. Isa Nathaniel JP, the chairman of the Contact & Mobilization Team for the Movement, stated on Wednesday in Lafia that while political leaders are entitled to support a preferred candidate, it is crucial to clarify that Nasarawa State is not a political inheritance to be simply handed over from one individual to another. Nathaniel emphasized that the future of Nasarawa State belongs solely to its people and will be determined by the electorate, rejecting the notion that endorsements, private arrangements, campaign structures, or vested interests should dictate its leadership.

The Movement firmly asserted that in a democratic system, a governor does not possess the authority to hand over a state as if it were personal property. They underscored the fundamental principle that the people's mandate must remain sovereign and paramount. Furthermore, Nathaniel stressed that the future of Nasarawa State should not be auctioned off to commercial interests or reduced to mere political and economic transactions. The group believes that the people of Nasarawa deserve leadership founded on competence, unwavering integrity, robust accountability, a clear vision, and a genuine commitment to the state's comprehensive development.

Clarifying their stance, the Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement ensured that their position should not be misconstrued as a personal attack on Senator Wadada, acknowledging his constitutional right to contest and seek support. They reiterated that political support or endorsements should never be presented as a substitute for the free and informed choice of the electorate. The Movement called for the 2027 contest to be centered on critical issues, demonstrable competence, unquestionable credibility, accountability, and a profound commitment to public service, rather than being driven by entitlement, predetermined succession arrangements, or commercial interests.

The statement concluded with a powerful declaration: “Nasarawa is not an inheritance! Nasarawa is not a commodity!! Nasarawa is not for sale!!! Its future cannot be auctioned to commercial interests or predetermined in private political arrangements. In 2027, the people of Nasarawa State, not any individual, will decide who governs them.” The Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement vowed to continue its peaceful and democratic engagement with the people, steadfastly defending their inherent right to determine the future leadership of the state.
