Ethiopia's Bold Vision: PM Abiy Prioritizes Tourism for National Development
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored the rapidly emerging role of tourism as a decisive force in shaping Ethiopia's development trajectory, signifying a clear shift towards a more sustainable and diversified economic model. According to the Prime Minister, the tourism sector is gaining substantial strength, bolstered by sustained investments in infrastructure, meticulous restoration of heritage sites, and intensified global promotion aimed at positioning Ethiopia as a prime destination.
In a message disseminated across social media platforms, Prime Minister Abiy announced the official inauguration of Haro Dandi Lodge, a flagship project nestled within the Oromia Regional State. This initiative falls under the broader 'Dine for Generation' program. He emphasized that the Haro Dandi Lodge transcends conventional ecotourism, instead presenting a "new face of Ethiopia" where contemporary architectural design harmoniously integrates with the rhythms of nature. The lodge, he further articulated, stands as a profound symbol of a development approach firmly anchored in principles of sustainability and innovation.
"This lodge is a testament to promises made and promises delivered. It elevates Ethiopia as a destination worthy of being visited, invested in, and cherished. As a central pillar of our economy, tourism is not just a sector, it is shaping the future of our national growth," the Prime Minister stated. He elaborated that the site represents more than just a tourism destination; it ingeniously combines robust environmental protection efforts with a broader national vision. "We didn't just build, we chose to honour our natural legacy, magnifying the existing beauty of Dendi Crater Lake for generations to follow while respecting the heritage of the local people. It is a human centered sanctuary built to respect the land and empower the community," Abiy Ahmed noted.
PM Abiy further highlighted that the Haro Dandi Lodge project reflects a comprehensive commitment extending beyond mere physical infrastructure. He specifically pointed out its strong environmental focus, emphasizing the preservation of the natural beauty of Dendi Crater Lake through eco-conscious design that respects the surrounding ecosystem. Additionally, the initiative prioritizes community-centered development, ensuring that local residents reap benefits while their invaluable cultural values and social wellbeing are diligently safeguarded. The Prime Minister reaffirmed, "Haro Dandi Lodge is further proof that we have fulfilled our promise." He concluded by noting that this project significantly strengthens Ethiopia's position as an attractive destination for international tourism and investment, simultaneously reinforcing the nation's steadfast commitment to sustainable development. Tourism, he stated, will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the country's development trajectory, cementing its status as a cornerstone of the national economy.
