Espionage Alarm: Secret Arms Cache Linked to Putin's Agents Unearthed in Berlin Forest

German security authorities have uncovered a significant cache of weapons in a forest located near Berlin, a discovery that has raised serious concerns regarding potential foreign espionage and planned acts of violence. The information, reported by public broadcasters WDR and NDR, along with the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) daily, details a professionally established depot containing two live firearms.

This clandestine hideout is suspected by Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), to be a secret drop site utilized by Russian security services. Referred to as a "dead letterbox" among agents, such sites are known only to the sender and recipient, facilitating covert exchange of materials and information without direct contact. The discovery strongly suggests a prepared facility for clandestine operations.

German security officials now postulate that these weapons were intended for agents acting on behalf of Moscow, with the explicit purpose of carrying out "kinetic operations," a term often used to describe acts of physical violence or targeted assassinations. This finding aligns with earlier warnings issued by Sinan Selen, the head of the domestic intelligence service, who several months prior cautioned about the increasing likelihood of Russia conducting assassinations on German soil.

Selen had previously identified potential targets for such operations, which include key figures in the defense industry, Russian opposition figures living in exile within Germany, and prominent supporters of Ukraine. The presence of live firearms in a professionally managed secret depot underscores the gravity of these threats and the operational capabilities of the suspected foreign actors.

In response to these revelations, a request for comment was sent to the Russian embassy by NDR, WDR, and SZ; however, it has remained unanswered thus far. Historically, the Russian embassy has consistently dismissed similar accusations as mere conspiracy theories, maintaining a pattern of denial regarding allegations of covert activities on foreign soil. The ongoing silence, in this instance, adds to the tension surrounding the investigation.
