Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, presided over the official unveiling ceremony in Enugu on Thursday, hailing the revival of the iconic edifice as "a homecoming for history."

Governor Mbah passionately extolled the foresight of Dr. Okpara, acknowledging the hotel's historical significance as a symbol of the Eastern Region's resilience, elegance, and enterprise. He expressed profound regret that this monument of pride had fallen into disrepair and stood neglected for approximately 15 years. The Governor emphasized that the hotel's revival is a direct fulfillment of his administration's core campaign promise: to reclaim Enugu's moribund assets and drive a sevenfold growth in the state's economy. "This unveiling is more than opening the doors of a hotel; it is the reopening of Enugu’s confidence. It is a tangible sign that when we say Enugu is open for business, we mean business," Mbah declared, outlining his ambitious target to grow Enugu's economy to at least $30 billion and achieve a zero percent poverty headcount rate.

A crucial aspect of the reconstruction was Governor Mbah's insistence on world-class standards for the Hotel Presidential. He also commended the contractors, Dilworth, for their meticulous attention to detail, and recognized the collaborative efforts of the successive Commissioners of Works and Infrastructure, and their Culture and Tourism counterpart, in bringing the project to fruition.

Dame Ugochi Madueke, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, eloquently captured the renewed spirit, stating, "the silence has been broken; the lights are on – never to dim again; the doors are open – never to shut again; and the spirit of Enugu is back, stronger and brighter than ever." Former Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Sunday Onyebuchi, praised Governor Mbah's swiftness in not only constructing new facilities but also in rejuvenating defunct assets, remarking, "Your mantra says that tomorrow is here, but you have resurrected yesterday today."

HRH Igwe Samuel Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, lauded the governor's remarkable work rate, highlighting the commissioning of Enugu Air, five transport terminals, 100 CNG buses, and the reconstructed Hotel Presidential within a single month. "If you are not tired of commissioning projects, we will not be tired of coming out. We have never seen it this way. Your leadership in Enugu State is legendary and monumental. There is no vacancy in Lion Building in 2027," he affirmed. Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, Chairman of Enugu North LGA, also commended the governor's transformative leadership, assuring him of the people's unwavering support.
