Enugu Horror: Officer Arrested for Sexually Abusing, Murdering 19-Year-Old Cousin

The Enugu State Police Command, through operatives of the Nsukka Urban Division, supported by the Neighbourhood Watch Group, on Monday, December 1, 2025, arrested Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, 51, for the gruesome murder of his 19-year-old maternal cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu.
Details emerging from the case reveal a harrowing history of abuse. Loveth had reported a case of defilement, sexual abuse, abduction, and threat to life against Nwangwu to the Umabor Division on November 28, 2025. She alleged that she had been living with the suspect since 2019, from the age of 13, following the death of his wife. During this period, Nwangwu reportedly restricted her communication with family and friends and subjected her to continuous sexual abuse.
Attempts by Loveth to escape were met with further threats. After trying to flee to her family home in Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA, Nwangwu allegedly threatened her with a firearm, forcing her back to his residence in Ibeku-Opi, Nsukka LGA, where she was locked in a room. She eventually managed to escape using a spare key and reported the incident to the police, who provided her with a medical report form for examination. Both Nwangwu and his family were subsequently invited to the police station. At this point, Nwangwu reportedly confessed, sought forgiveness, and promised to return Loveth's property. The family, citing personal ties and the incestuous nature of the act, initially chose not to prosecute, opting instead for spiritual cleansing.
Tragically, while Loveth was receiving treatment at a pharmacy in Nsukka, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, a member of the Neighbourhood Security Watch Group, forcibly entered the establishment. He assaulted her and repeatedly struck her head on the floor, causing fatal injuries. Loveth was rushed to the hospital, where her death was confirmed, and her remains were deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Solomon Chukwudi Onah played a crucial role in preventing further mob violence. He rescued Nwangwu from an angry crowd and drove him to the Nsukka police station. Onah, however, expressed profound regret for his intervention after realizing the gravity of Nwangwu's actions. He recounted that immediately upon their arrival at the station, Nwangwu brazenly called someone on the phone, believed to be the Nsukka Local Government Chairman, shouting, “Mayor! I've seen the girl, I've killed her.” Onah condemned the “jungle justice” but admitted regret for intervening in a case of such “heaviness,” especially when it involved “two officers of the law; a DPO and a CSO,” implying a deeper network or implication.
The suspect, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, has since been re-arrested and remains in police custody. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, vehemently condemned the heinous crime and the cruel manner in which it was perpetrated. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that justice would be served. CP Giwa has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to meticulously investigate the case and ensure it is promptly charged to court.
