ENI to boost Ghana's natural gas supply by 30 million cubic feet per day from July 13

Published 4 days ago2 minute read

In a major step towards strengthening Ghana’s energy security, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that Italian energy giant ENI will significantly ramp up its natural gas supply to the country starting Sunday, 13 July 2025.

According to the Ministry, ENI will increase its supply by an additional 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), raising Ghana’s total daily gas supply to 270 MMscfd. This strategic move is expected to fortify the nation’s energy infrastructure and ensure a more reliable and resilient power supply for households and industries alike.

As part of this initiative, ENI will temporarily suspend its gas export operations to prioritise local supply. While this temporary suspension is critical to optimising the supply chain and facilitating the planned increase, it may lead to short-term constraints in gas availability for power generation.

In response, the Ministry has assured the public that it is working closely with key players in the power sector to mitigate any potential disruptions. Proactive measures have been rolled out, including enhanced monitoring of power generation and robust contingency plans, to ensure minimal impact on electricity supply.

“The Ministry remains committed to ensuring a stable and sustainable energy future for all Ghanaians,” a statement from the Ministry read. “We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the public and stakeholders during this period of enhancement.”

This supply boost aligns with the government’s broader agenda to transition to greener energy sources while strengthening energy independence. By prioritising domestic needs and reinforcing infrastructure, Ghana aims to support economic growth, attract investment, and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

The Ministry’s announcement is a timely intervention as the country continues to grapple with growing energy demands. With this significant increase in supply, Ghanaians can look forward to more stable power delivery and a positive step toward achieving the nation’s energy transition goals.
