England Women secure series clean-sweep in Taunton

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

England Women secured a clean-sweep in the Metro Bank One Day International series against West Indies, winning the final rain-affected game at Taunton by nine wickets.

In a game reduced to 21 overs per side, West Indies made 106-8 – either side of a lengthy rain delay – and the hosts made light work of the total, winning with 11 overs left for the loss of one wicket.

Having won the series in the second ODI at Leicester, England rejigged their side with Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith all sitting out. It was the tried and tested combination of Kate Cross and Amy Jones who combined for the opening wicket of the day though, Realeanna Grimmond nicking behind to Jones – the wicket-keeper celebrating her 100th ODI cap with an early dismissal.

Em Arlott took two wickets in her opening spell before the rain came, with Sarah Glenn taking 3-21 from her four overs when the action resumed, a performance which earned her Player of the Match.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt signed off a successful first series as full-time captain with an unbeaten 57. Her side will next be in action against India on Saturday June 28.
