▪ No new WPV1 cases reported this week. The total WPV1 cases count for 2025 to date is 16 (2 from Afghanistan and 14 from Pakistan) and in 2024, the total case count remains 99 (25 from Afghanistan and 74 from Pakistan).
▪ Forty-One new WPV1 environmental samples from Pakistan in 2025 reported this week. The newly reported WPV1 ES are: 18 from Sindh province (2 each from Kambar district, Karachi East, Karachi Keamari, Karachi South towns and 1 each from Karachi West, Karachi Central, Karachi Malir, and Karachi Korangi towns, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Kashmore districts), 9 from Punjab province (4 from Lahore, 2 from Rawalpindi, and 1 each from Bahawalpur, Sialkot, and Gujranwala districts), 7 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (Dera Ismail Khan, Lakkimarwat, Manshera, Wazir-South Upper, Batagram, Swat, and Wazir-South Lower districts), 4 from Balochistan province (Khuzdar, Mastung, Sibi, and Quetta districts), 2 from Islamabad province (both from Islamabad Capital Territory district), and 1 from Azad Kashmir province (Mirpur district) with sample collection date between 2nd to 20th June 2025. The total ES count to date in 2025 is 401 (33 from Afghanistan and 368 from Pakistan) compared to 741 in 2024 (113 from Afghanistan and 628 from Pakistan).
Vaccine derived poliovirus (VDPV)
▪ Seven new cVDPV2 cases from Yemen in 2024 reported this week. The newly reported cVDPV2 cases are all from Sanaa City province (3 from Bani ElHarith, and 1 each from AlSabeen, Maeen, Shawob, and Azal districts). The cVDPV2 cases count in 2025 to date remains 6 (1 from Djibouti, 2 from Sudan, and 3 from Yemen) compared to 60 in 2024 (51 from Yemen, 7 from Somalia,1 from Occupied Palestinian Territory and 1 from Sudan). ▪ One new cVDPV2 ES reported from Sudan in 2025 this week. The newly reported cVDPV2 ES is from Genena district of West Darfur province with sample collection date on 16th April 2025.
▪ The total number of cVDPV2 isolates from ES in 2025 to date is 27 (16 from Djibouti, 7 from occupied Palestinian territory, 3 from Somalia, and 1 from Sudan) as compared to 49 in 2024 (20 from occupied Palestinian territory, 12 from Yemen, 9 from Djibouti, 3 from Somalia, 2 each from Egypt and Sudan, and 1 in Bahrain).
