A video of his father, Mzee Meshack Opiyo, seated inside a hearse, crying after protesters took over his son’s body, has gone viral.
Ojwang passed away while in police custody on June 8, and an autopsy report indicated he suffered a major head injury.
The family transported his body to his village in Homa Bay county ahead of his burial.
They had a hitch when students from Mawego National Polytechnic demanded to take his body to the police station first.
Carrying Ojwang to Mawego Police Station was a way for the youths to protest against the manner in which he passed away.
Before alighting the hearse and pleading with the crowd not to take his son’s body, Mzee Opiyo spoke about the matter and explained that the protesters were stressing the deceased's widow after a long journey.
Mzee Opiyo admitted that they had no time to rest during the journey, and they had not eaten.
His wife was seen resting on a window ledge, seemingly defeated.
His grandson, who was in the car with them, was oblivious to what was happening.
“You’ll end up killing this woman too. You’ve blocked us here. We’re going to the station we’ve come from far and we’ve passed through many places. We’ve discussed everything we could, but nothing can help at the station," he said.
Mzee Opiyo said that what mattered was people viewing his son's body and leaving all else to God.
He sympathised with his wife, asking the crowd to give his family time to get home. Ojwang's dad painfully asked whether they wanted him to bury two people, his wife and son.
"What matters now is seeing the body and leaving everything else to God. These ones are suffering; they haven’t eaten since yesterday. If the mother gets hurt, I’ll be dealing with two corpses," he added.

Was Ojwang's family home completed?
In other news, Kenyans marvelled at the completed two-bedroom house Gladys Wanga built for the family.
She handed over the house upon its completion.
It was always Ojwang's wish to build his family a house.
