2024 Emmys: Fans Outraged Over 'The Bear' Being Categorized as a Comedy

This is even better than what’s on TV. 

And that’s a hard contest to win, considering just how good shows were this year. Indeed, and announced the Emmy nominees for 2025 in a July 15 livestream, and small screen stars are getting their much-deserved flowers. 

After Nobody Wants This, the beloved Netflix comedy starring and and produced by , earned three nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series as well as Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress, Kristen was quick to express her shock with reaction photos on Instagram. 

"Finding out I was nominated for an Emmy," Kristen wrote alongside the photos in a July 15 post. "Finding out @erinfoster was nominated for an Emmy!!!!"

In the last few years, the Emmys have been dominated by beloved shows like Abbott Elementary (which has earned four wins and now 30 nominations since its first eligible year in 2022) and The Bear, which broke a record last year for scoring 11 wins in one night, on top of eight additional wins for previous years. 

History could be repeating itself in 2025, considering The Bear scored 13 more nominations, while Abbott Elementary has come away with six, including star 's fourth for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. (See every nomination here.)

And while may score a win this year for his portrayal of in The Pitt, earning a nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series, he has a whopping five previous Emmy nominations for his performance in another medical show: ER. Indeed, the drama series—which reigned on network television from 1994 to 2009—has 23 wins under its belt, among the most decorated shows in Emmys history.

Meanwhile, the Emmys have also been an opportunity for actors to flex just how versatile they can be across roles. Last year, scored a nod for her role in Griselda. And while she already had four previous, comedic nods for her time playing Gloria on Modern Family, she was particularly touched by the honor. 

“Griselda was my first dramatic role ever, and it took us 15 years to bring her to life,” she explained in a post following the nominations being announced. “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who was a part of this series. I never dreamed that after Modern Family I would be able to work on something as special as Griselda.”

As with every year, there’s always a completely unexpectedly beloved show that sees a major sweep. Last year, that rang true for , who won all three of his nominated categories for his semi-autobiographical Baby Reindeer

“Look, 10 years ago, I was down and out,” Richard said during his acceptance speech for Writing for a Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie. “I’d never ever thought I’d get my life together. I never thought I’d be able to rectify myself for what had happened to me and get myself back on my feet again and here I am.”

Christine, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology, went on to thank those who helped bring the smash Netflix hit to life. 

"I want to thank the incredibly talented and , and , and Netflix along with Warp Films and Plan B—this project would not have been possible without them," she continued. "I also want to send huge congratulations to , , and —you’ve been extraordinary.”

“This is such an honour," Ashley, who is up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, wrote in a statement. "This nomination means the world to me—not just as recognition, but as a reminder of how far I’ve come. It’s for everyone who stood by me through the highs and the lows, who believed in me when I needed it most."

Indeed, Ashley couldn't believe how far he's come to get to this honor. 

"It’s a testament to the power of perseverance," he continued. "Dreams are important—but it’s the hard work, the setbacks, the growth, and the consistency that make them real. Five years ago, this felt out of reach. Today, I’m incredibly proud—not just for myself, but to stand alongside a group of artists I admire deeply. What we made together is something I’ll carry with me forever, and to see it acknowledged on this level is truly special."

“I am so thrilled to be recognized with such an amazing group of actors," Jason, who is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, wrote in a statement. "Even more, I am just so excited the show and my costars were nominated. We are a family here and it’s a really happy day for Team Shrinking!”

“Wow, getting a nomination for anything is unreal, I feel extremely privileged to have received this nomination, alongside so many amazing talents in this industry," Owen, who was just 14 while filming the nominated Netflix series, wrote in a statement. Owen, who made history as the youngest Emmy nominee ever, also went on to thank Netflix. 

"For all their continued support to myself and my family," he added. "I would also like to congratulate all my fellow nominees in this category. I am buzzing and so looking forward to the ceremony.”

While Aimee reposted several of her friends and family celebrating her, she could only say so much about the news when she posted in on her Instagram Story July 15, noting, "Wtf."

After her wife Robby earned a nod for her guest appearance on Hacks, Gabby took to Instagram to share her excitement. 

"It's like we already knew right away tho!!!" Gabby wrote in a July 15 Instagram Story. "Congratulations to the funniest, most talented wife there ever was. So proud of you, baby!!!" 

Meanwhile, Robby couldn't add much more but reposting the news along a slew of shocked emojis on her own page July 15.

"Well I am just floored," Ayo, who made history with her third Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series nomination, gushed in a July 15 Instagram Story. "So unbelieveably honored and grateful. So much gratitude to everyone who made this happen, our cast, and our perfect, perfect BEAUTIFUL crew who make everything possible."

While she wasn't nominated herself, Leslie shared the love for her fellow The White Lotus stars, as , , , , and swept nominations. 

"Congrats to all my extremely talented friends," Leslie gushed in a July 15 Instagram Story. "On their well-deserved Emmy noms!"

She later added a photo of her packing on the PDA with partner , adding, "And congrats to my cookie. I am so proud of you."

“We are honored and overjoyed to be nominated by our peers for The Pitt," Noah, along with fellow producers and wrote in a statement. "It's truly a labor of love and couldn't happen without the extraordinary work of many talented collaborators. We are delighted and humbled to be nominated with our outstanding fellow nominees."

And in response to his Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination, Noah added, "I’m overjoyed that the nominations were spread across all the different departments as it reflects our collective effort. A heartfelt congrats to all my fellow nominees. I’m humbled and grateful.”

Hannah gave shoutouts to everyone from the HBO Max series that scooped a nomination, and of course expressed joy for her own nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. 

"Shoutout to my family," she wrote in a July 15 Instagram Story. "Hacks is only possible because of the best crew on planet Earth. Thank you. So insanely honored!"

"Thank you to the Television Academy for this recognition," Jake, who was nominated for Oustanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series, said in a statement to E! News. "Also huge appreciation to the entire brilliant cast of Presumed Innocent, the expertise our incredible crew brought to work every day and to AppleTV+ for your support."

Naturally, Jake also didn't skimp on the opportunity to give sister 's husband a nod. 

"A special congratulations to my brother-in-law, ," he added, "who was also nominated and ain’t half bad in the show either.”

"I am thrilled for all the lovely people on the show," Catherine, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, gushed in a statement to E! News, "and honored to be in their company. And I’m so happy and are finally getting some much deserved attention thanks to The Studio!”

This is a bunch of cherries on the icing on the cake that was the gift of playing such a tortured and lonely human for the brilliant ," Jason, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Timothy Ratliff. "I went on a journey that started in pure selfishness and ended in humility and bliss. I might have just done the same with today’s nomination—to be chosen by my peers to be listed alongside actors I admire so much feels surreal.”

The longtime comedy duo expressed their elation to be nominated for their hit AppleTV+ show, which broke the record for the most nominations from a brand new comedy series with 23 nominations

"What the heck?!!" Rogen and Goldberg said in a joint statement to E! News. "We never thought this would happen. What do we even say? Uh… thanks to our parents, our agents, our publicists, our preschool teachers, our managers, The Television Academy, our assistants, and Apple? Or do you only say that stuff if you win? Oh no! We’re already blowing it. Um… no comment!”

“Thank you so much to the Television Academy, Point Grey, and everyone at Apple," Dave, who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, wrote in a statement to E! News. "It feels strangely fitting that my first nomination is for playing myself while inebriated on alcohol, weed, cocaine, and mushrooms.”

The Nobody Wants This actress shared her live reaction after earning a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, along with the series itself, produced by , for Outstanding Comedy Series. 

"Finding out I was nominated for an Emmy," Kristen wrote alongside the photos in a July 15 post. "Finding out @erinfoster was nominated for an Emmy!!!!"

Colman was sure to give everyone flowers for his Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series nod. 

"For , , and my extraordinary cast of brilliant masterful comedians @stevecarellofficial @kerrikenneysilver @mcalvani @erikahenningsen and , that I get the privilege to play with," he wrote in a July 15 Instagram post. "No one gets to be funny without the other. Such a generous and giving company. Can’t wait to play with them all again very soon."

Of course, The Crown alum also went on to share the love to those behind the scenes.

"To the legendary producers Jo Johnson, Hannah Walters, Mark Herbert, Warp Films and Plan B—I will be forever grateful to you for letting me be a part of this piece of work. Once just a famed director, now an Emmy nominee! The Killers of the Flower Moon star clearly couldn't believe the honor in a FaceTime screenshot his daughter Francesca Scorsese shared to Instagram July 15. 

In another post she celebrated her father, adding, "Our little actor."

“I feel thrilled," Ruth, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology, wrote in a statement to E! News. "It truly takes a village and I have such thanks to the incredible hard work cast and crew on Presumed Innocent. I feel gratitude to be nominated for an Emmy, and in this category with such incredibly talented artists.”

Although the Saturday Night Live star recieved another nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor, he first took to social media to congratulate fellow nominee Jeff Hiller. As he wrote in a July 15 Instagram Story, "EMMY NOMINEE JEFF HILLER THANK GOD."

Of course, he later added some gratitude for his own nomination, attaching a photo of the Saturday Night Live cast and crew. 

"Thank you to the continent of Asia," he joked. "You're welcome Asians."

The Bear actress quickly took to Instagram to react to her second nomination for her role as Tina. 

"I am beside myself. Thank you to everyone who supported me, again" she said in a July 15 Instagram video. "And to the Academy."

And since she was coincidentally celebrating her birthday the same day, she cheekily added in the caption, "This is the best birthday ever!"

I am beyond tickled to be nominated for this role in The Studio, with these humans," Kathryn, who is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, wrote in a statement to E! News. "Seth and Evan, thank you for seeing me for the soulless art-killer that I’ve always been. And thank you to the hair and makeup and wardrobe and nails of Maya Mason for doing half the work for me."

She continued, "This has been a total joy and I’m so proud to be one of the gazillion recognitions. The company I’m in, in this show and in this category, are my heroes."

And while it was snubbed from the main categories, Kathryn made a point to shoutout her other series from this past year. 

"I must shout out my beautiful coven on Agatha All Along—so proud of our work," she noted. "I’m currently in Dublin raising a 2nd pint and literally looking at a rainbow. Wow thank you!!!!!!!!”

The Matlock actress, who earned a nod for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, thanked CBS leadership George Cheeks and Amy Reisenbach as well as director David Del Rio for her honor. 

"I am deeply grateful to the Television Academy for this honor," Kathy wrote in a statement to E! News. "My heartfelt thanks to CBS—to George, Amy, and David—for believing in us every step of the way on this beautiful journey and for being such delightful people to work with. Every day on set is a gift thanks to the dedication, talent, and friendship of our incredible cast and crew."

She also went on to thank showrunner Jennie Snyder.

"Darling Jennie—thank you for seeing those of us who feel unseen, for not abandoning me, and for trusting me with Matty's complex story," she continued. "This nomination really belongs to you…what a joy it has been for all of us to pour our hearts into bringing your Matlock to life."

After earning her first ever nomination for her role as Helly in Severance, the actress reposted the news to her Instagram July 15, adding with a crying emoji, "Thank you."
