Emirates Expands London Heathrow Power, Boosting African Winter Escapes

Emirates is significantly enhancing travel opportunities between Africa and the United Kingdom, announcing the introduction of six additional weekly flights to London Heathrow, commencing on 26 October 2025. This strategic expansion is a direct response to record-breaking demand and sustained growth in traffic on the popular London-Dubai route, perfectly timed for the bustling year-end travel season. Currently, Emirates operates six daily flights between Dubai and London Heathrow, exclusively utilizing the iconic Airbus A380 aircraft. The newly added services will elevate the frequency, offering greater flexibility and choice for African travelers heading to the UK for various purposes including business, leisure, and family visits.
These new flights will operate on all days of the week except Friday, and will be serviced by the widely used Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Each of these aircraft is configured with a three-class layout – First, Business, and Economy – providing over 350 seats in each direction. This diverse seating arrangement ensures premium comfort and a range of fare options designed to cater to different budgets and preferences.
The expanded schedule offers substantial advantages for African tour operators and hospitality partners. It translates into increased inventory available for sale during the highly lucrative winter travel season, along with conveniently timed options that help clients avoid the congestion and higher fares often experienced during peak periods. Furthermore, these additional flights forge new connectivity possibilities for regional feeder markets, thereby making London more accessible from across Sub-Saharan Africa. A notable feature of the new schedule is its convenient overnight departure from London Heathrow to Dubai. This specific timing is meticulously designed to optimize onward connections for passengers traveling to a diverse array of popular destinations, including Durban in South Africa, as well as key Asian hubs such as Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Jakarta. Whether travelers aim to extend their UK journey to Asia or return home via Dubai, Emirates' expanding network provides seamless and efficient travel solutions.
Additionally, the enhanced London services are precisely synchronized to benefit travelers originating from cities across West Asia, including Ahmedabad, Lahore, Maldives, Hyderabad, and Chennai. The schedule also caters to passengers from the Chinese mainland (Beijing and Shanghai) and several Middle Eastern cities such as Bahrain, Dammam, and Riyadh. For African wholesalers, this comprehensive connectivity means increased opportunities to craft multi-destination itineraries, seamlessly blending African, European, and Asian experiences with minimal layover times.
Specific flight timings for the new services include Flight EK41, departing Dubai on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 13:40hrs, and arriving at London Heathrow at 17:40hrs. On Thursdays, EK41 will leave Dubai at 12:55hrs, reaching London Heathrow at 16:55hrs. The return journey, EK42, is scheduled to depart London Heathrow at 22:35hrs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, and at 21:20hrs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Dubai the following morning. All times are local, facilitating smooth transfers and straightforward onward travel planning for guests originating from or transiting through the African continent.
With these added frequencies, Emirates is further solidifying its standing as the preferred carrier for travel between Africa and the UK, especially for those who prioritize comfort, reliability, and extensive global reach. The enhanced frequencies at Emirates’ London hubs, which include both Heathrow and Gatwick, are set to bring the airline’s total weekly UK services to an impressive 90 flights by early next year. The airline's expansion plans extend further: from 8 February 2026, a fourth daily flight to London Gatwick will be introduced, operated by Emirates’ latest Airbus A350 aircraft. This modern addition promises an elevated passenger experience and provides essential additional capacity during a period of traditionally high demand. By February 2026, Emirates anticipates operating an extensive 146 weekly flights to the UK, serving not only London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted, but also extending its reach to key regional gateways such as Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
For the African travel sector, this robust and expanding schedule offers unprecedented access to the UK market, significantly supporting both outbound and inbound tourism while facilitating smoother business exchanges. The positive ripple effects of Emirates’ network growth will be felt across the entire African continent. As an increasing number of passengers from West, East, and Southern Africa connect through Dubai, the increased flight options will translate into shorter travel times, more competitive fares, and greater convenience for connecting to vital European and Asian destinations. For African hotels, Destination Management Companies (DMCs), and tour operators, this presents a prime opportunity to develop innovative new products and itineraries that leverage Dubai as a central, world-class hub, attracting both leisure and corporate travelers with flexible routing and superior service.
Given that the UK remains a top source market for many African destinations, and with growing demand for VFR (visiting friends and relatives), educational travel, and business trips, these additional flights are highly likely to stimulate even greater interest in Africa-bound journeys. In return, African travelers will benefit from enhanced access not only to London but also to the UK’s regional cities and beyond, thanks to Emirates’ extensive partnerships with rail and regional airline networks within the United Kingdom. This comprehensive expansion underscores the dynamic and transformative changes reshaping air connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. As airlines like Emirates continue to proactively respond to market demand with increased capacity and strategic scheduling, African travel professionals must remain agile—ready to capitalize on the surge in bookings, create innovative travel packages, and consistently deliver seamless travel experiences for clients seeking to explore, connect, and conduct business on a truly global scale.
