Elon Musk has repeatedly criticized Warren Buffett's investing style, deeming it boring and his public image overhyped. Despite these jabs, Musk acknowledges Buffett's economic contributions and skills. Ironically, Musk has publicly expressed his desire for Buffett to invest in Tesla, even suggesting Berkshire Hathaway should shift its Apple stake to his company.

has never been shy about speaking his mind, especially when it comes to billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Over the years, Musk has taken repeated jabs at the legendary investor, calling his job boring and his “kindly grandfather” image overhyped, as per a report. But behind the criticisms, there’s a twist: Musk actually wants Buffett to invest in Tesla, as per a Benzinga report.Benzinga wrote in its article that, "If Elon Musk ever writes a self-help book, chapter one might be titled- Insult First, Pitch Later."

It started back in 2020, during a guest appearance on 'The Joe Rogan Experience' podcast, Musk didn’t hold back as he casually roasted Buffett's day job, saying, "To be totally frank, I'm not his biggest fan," adding, "He does a lot of capital allocation. He reads a lot of annual reports of companies and all the accounting — and it's pretty boring, really," as quoted in the report.

He didn’t stop there, Musk even took a swing at the entire financial and legal sector, as he said, "We should have fewer people doing law and fewer people doing finance, and more people making stuff," quoted Benzinga in its report.

That same year, in a New York Times interview with Maureen Dowd, he was prompted during a “Confirm or Deny” game, and was asked, "Warren Buffett is overrated," as quoted in the report. The tech billionaire did not give a direct answer, but he laughed and said, "Hahaha. Um, I think he has managed to create a great image for himself as a kindly grandfather, which is maybe overstating the case," as quoted by Benzinga.A year later, when he was named Time's Person of the Year, Musk doubled down, saying, "I'm not Warren Buffett's biggest fan, frankly," as quoted in the report. The Tesla CEO described, his work, saying, "He sits there and reads all these annual reports, which are super boring." Musk added, "Does anybody want that job? I think most people do not. I don't want that job," as quoted by Benzinga.ALSO READ: Sex scandal rocks Kremlin: Putin aide flew 23-year-old lover around Russia on lavish military aircraftYet, even as he dismissed Buffett’s investing style as dull, Musk couldn’t completely deny the value the billionaire investor brings to the table, according to the report. Musk said, "He's not engaged in insane, conspicuous consumption. So you have to say, 'Sure, he's got a high net worth, but he's doing a useful job for the economy, and he's very skilled at it and should probably keep doing it,'" as quoted in the report.

However, fast forward a few years, and even though Musk had mocked what Buffett does, he still wanted him to do what he does best: invest, as reported by Benzinga. The world's richest man said, "He should take a position in Tesla. It's an obvious move," Musk posted on X last year, replying to a user who suggested Berkshire Hathaway ditch its $135 billion Apple stake and go all-in on Tesla instead, reported Benzinga.

Not exactly. Musk has criticized Buffett’s investing style, but he’s also acknowledged Buffett's skill and value in the economy.

Musk values innovation and creation, while Buffett focuses on financial reports and capital allocation — things Musk finds dull.
