GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Temperatures will be in the triple-digits Sunday, and the fire risk increases.
Hot Temperatures Continue
High pressure continues to stay over us and keep us hot and dry. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s to low 100s through Monday. A dry disturbance will move through the area Tuesday and cool down high temperatures to the low to mid 90s Tuesday through Wednesday. High pressure will then rebuild Wednesday and increase high temperatures back to the mid 90s to low 100s Thursday. If doing outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, don’t overexert yourself, and take frequent breaks in the shade. Also know the signs of heat illness so you can monitor yourself and others.
Elevated Fire Risk
The fire risk will be elevated over the next few days as the disturbance moves our way. The wind gusts will increase as the disturbance gets closer and the humidity will be low due to the hot temperatures. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for Moffat County and the western half of Rio Blanco County. Those go into effect Sunday from 1 PM to 8 PM because of low humidity values of 6-11 percent and winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Even though the rest of the Western Slope doesn’t have Red Flag Warning criteria at the moment, the fire risk is still elevated enough that outdoor burning is not advised through at least Monday.
Father’s Day Forecast
This evening will be mostly clear with temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s around 7 PM, then decreasing to the mid 70s to mid 80s around 9 PM. Father’s Day will be mostly sunny and dry with morning lows of about 64 degrees in Grand Junction, 57 degrees in Montrose, 58 degrees in Delta, 49 degrees in Cortez, and 65 degrees in Moab. Temperatures will increase to the mid 70s to low 80s at 9 AM, mid 80s to low 90s around noon, and low 90s to low 100s around 4 PM. High temperatures will be about 100 degrees in Grand Junction, 95 degrees in Montrose, 101 degrees in Delta, 95 degrees in Cortez, and 102 degrees in Moab.
