Election Chaos: Accord Party Nullifies Oyo Governorship Primaries

The Accord Party, under the leadership of Prof. Chris Imumolen, has officially nullified the outcomes of the controversial governorship primaries held in Oyo State. This decision means that neither Oriyomi Hamzat nor Olakunle Busari is recognized as the legitimate governorship candidate for the party in the state.

In a statement released by the party’s National Secretary, Muktar Abdallah, the Imumolen-led faction articulated that the emergence of two distinct candidates from the same faction—specifically the Maxwell–Ajaja faction—served as clear evidence of widespread confusion, greed, money politics, and profound leadership deficiencies within that particular group. The party further accused the factional leadership of intentionally imposing illegal party officials, driven primarily by personal interests and financial motivations. This inability to competently manage the primary process, the statement asserted, exposed the Accord Party to significant public ridicule due to the occurrence of parallel candidates.

This development, according to the party, strongly corroborated existing claims by loyal party members that the Maxwell and Ajaja faction fundamentally lacks the necessary legitimacy, discipline, and moral authority required to effectively manage the affairs of a national political organization. Prof. Imumolen emphasized that the crisis engulfing the Oyo governorship primaries would not be overlooked. He revealed that the authentic leadership of the party had already taken decisive action by constituting a specialized disciplinary committee. This committee's mandate is to thoroughly investigate the actions of all members accused of causing embarrassment and dishonor to the party through their involvement in the contentious primary process.

Looking forward, the Accord Party also announced its firm intention to conduct a completely new, transparent, credible, and unified governorship primary. The objective of this fresh exercise is to meticulously select and produce a single, rightful candidate to represent the party in Oyo State. The party reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding internal democracy, ensuring justice, and adhering strictly to the rule of law, unequivocally stating that it would not permit selfish interests to compromise the party’s integrity and public image.
