Ekiti PDP Fury: Leaders Reject Scheme to Overturn Primary Election!

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State have voiced strong concerns over an alleged scheme to invalidate the outcome of the recent governorship primary election. Dr. Wole Oluyede emerged victorious in the primary held last Saturday, but party stalwarts fear attempts are being made to overturn his win. They have issued a cautionary appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde and other national leaders of the PDP, urging them to intervene and prevent what they describe as 'enemies of the party' from denying the people their chosen candidate.

Among the prominent Ekiti PDP leaders who raised this alarm are Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, a former deputy governorship candidate; Hon. Segun Adeola, a former House of Representatives member; Makanjuola Ogundipe, former state party chairman; and Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwawole, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly. Their collective appeal was made during a press conference at the party secretariat in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. They firmly asserted that Dr. Oluyede is the people's choice, expressing their determination to win the June 20, 2026, governorship election in Ekiti.

The leaders condemned those purportedly planning to reverse the primary election results, which they affirmed was a free, fair, and credible process. They labeled these individuals as 'enemies of the people,' stating, "Enough is enough. We do not want anybody to sell us cheaply to the APC." They further suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is aware of their credible candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, who they believe can secure victory in the 2026 election. They allege that efforts are being made to overturn the results in favor of a candidate not accepted at the polls, thereby undermining the democratic choice of the electorate.

Emphasizing the integrity of the primary, the leaders highlighted that the election was conducted and its results announced by Senator Ibrahim Dankwabo, former Governor and Accountant General of the Federation, in a peaceful and credible atmosphere. They reiterated their plea to Governor Makinde and the national leadership of the PDP to disregard the counsel of those they identify as 'enemies of the PDP' who are intent on destabilizing the party through this issue.

Meanwhile, in a positive move towards party cohesion, Dr. Oluyede, the PDP candidate, has initiated reconciliation efforts with other aspirants. He recently visited Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun, one of the contestants in the primary election, describing her as a sister and a formidable politician dedicated to the party. Mrs. Ogun responded positively, confirming her actions are aimed at promoting peace and ensuring the PDP remains strong and victorious in the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State.
