In a bid to promote sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance, member representing Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon Federal Constituency II, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, has empowered no fewer than 500 farmers and artisans with equipment tailored to their respective crafts.

The initiative came on the heels of consultations with community members to identify their most pressing needs.

A statement in Abuja by the legislative aide to the lawmaker, Hon. Olabode Adewale at the weekend, stated that the 5th edition of the Strategic Empowerment Programme for his constituents held in Ijurin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Omoleye said the initiative was carefully and deliberately considered towards ensuring that the right tools were given to the right people, adding that all 33 wards in the constituency were included in the distribution process that cut across party lines to ensure fairness.

He appealed to those who had not benefited to be patient, as it would soon be their turn.

“There is no need to give a carpenter a clipper or a photographer a shovel. Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Today’s empowerment is designed to put round pegs in round holes,” he said.

The lawmaker appealed to beneficiaries not to sell the tools provided, but to make meaningful use of them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

Omoleye also unveiled projects slated for execution in 2025 in his constituency. They include bursaries and scholarships for over 1,000 students in higher institutions, rural road rehabilitation, expansion of solar street lighting in farmsteads, erosion control efforts and the construction of a new ICT Centre at the College of Health Technology in Ijero.

He further revealed that Aramoko township road would be rehabilitated and asphalted, additional school buildings would be provided and market women as well as commercial motorcyclists (okada riders) would also benefit from targeted support programmes.

Highlighting his achievements over the past year, Omoleye listed the installation of solar-powered streetlights across several communities, including Efon, Okemesi, Ipoti, Ita-Ido, Ijurin, Itawure and parts of Erijiyan Ekiti, saying the efforts were aimed at boosting night-time commerce and improving security.

Other achievements recorded include the construction of three blocks of classrooms at Ipole Iloro-Ekiti Commercial Secondary school, the distribution of mattresses to the school for the deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti, the provision and installation of transformers at Efon-Alaaye, capacity building and skills acquisition training organized for the youths and women across the constituency, the first phase construction of Ijurin-Ilogbo road, among many intervention programmes.

The lawmaker also commended the progress made in women’s empowerment through adire and baltik production, with over 100 women already trained and equipped.

He hinted at an upcoming Adire Festival to showcase their products and promised to help the beneficiaries form a cooperative society with financial backing.

To cater for youths, Hon. Omoleye announced the ongoing construction of a National Youth Centre in the constituency, which will host vocational training, recreational activities, and leadership programmes to build capacity and connect local youths with opportunities nationwide.

Omoleye was full of gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, as well as constituents and party members for their continued support. He equally acknowledged media professionals and security agencies, with an assurance to include them in future empowerment plans.

The federal lawmaker urged constituents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership across the state to sustain the momentum of development and inclusive governance.
