Ekiti Guber Shocker: APC Adopts Consensus as Omolayo Steps Down

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced its decision to adopt the Consensus Mode for its governorship primary election in Ekiti state. This change from the previously agreed direct primary election was confirmed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement released in Abuja. The shift to a consensus approach was primarily driven by the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo.
Mrs. Omolayo formally communicated her decision to withdraw from the contest through a letter addressed to the Party. In her letter, she expressed her support for His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, endorsing him as the consensus candidate. She also affirmed her willingness to back any arrangement adopted by the Party for nominating its flag bearer, in full compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the Party’s Constitution.
The APC has duly informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of this decision via a letter dated October 13, 2025. Having meticulously satisfied the requirements stipulated under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act 2022, pertaining to the consensus mode of primary election, the Party has approved a precise timetable for the nomination congress. Activities are scheduled as follows: the Delegate Congress will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025; a Delegate Congress Appeal is set for Sunday, October 26, 2025; and the Special Nomination Congress to formally ratify the consensus candidate will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025.
The party has publicly commended Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo for her commendable spirit of sportsmanship and her unwavering commitment to party unity and progress. Furthermore, the APC has urged all its leaders, members, and stakeholders within Ekiti state to remain united and work diligently towards securing the Party’s victory in the forthcoming June 2026 Governorship Election.
