Efevberha Leads New Taipei to Consecutive FIBA Wins

New Taipei City's basketball team, the Kings, secured a decisive 105-65 victory against Adroit in the BCL Asia-East 2025 tournament. The game, held at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium, saw New Taipei initially trailing before veteran Michael Efevberha ignited a turnaround. With this win, the Kings maintain a perfect 2-0 record in Group B.

Efevberha scored 15 of his 19 points in the first quarter, spearheading a 13-3 run that gave New Taipei a 26-16 lead. His performance included efficient shooting (46.6-percent from the floor with three 3-pointers), along with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal, all without a single turnover.

Coach Ryan Marchand acknowledged the team's evolving roster and was pleased with the adjustments made throughout the game. Efevberha's early momentum allowed other players to contribute significantly. Su Pei Kai led all scorers with 23 points, achieving a personal best for the tournament by shooting 9-of-13 from the field, including three 3-pointers. One of Su's treys extended New Taipei's lead to its largest margin of 43 points (101-53) late in the game.

Wang Po Chih also had a strong performance with 19 points and 5 rebounds, highlighted by a one-handed dunk in the final minute. Chris Johnson added 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Sani Sakakini recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson's 10 points in the second quarter helped New Taipei establish a 49-36 lead at halftime, and Sakakini facilitated a dominant third quarter.

New Taipei aims to continue their winning streak as they face the Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos of Mongolia on Wednesday, April 30. Coach Marchand emphasized the team's goal to win every game and learn from each experience. Adroit, featuring former Singapore national team players Leon Kwek and Ng Hanbin, who scored 18 and 15 points respectively, faced a tough start to their BCL Asia-East campaign.
