At least 50 lady mechanics in Edo State on friday got their certification after a specialised training on conversion of PMS (petrol) vehicles to those using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), sponsored by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), the Edo State Government and the Lady Mechanic Initiative (LMI).

Speaking in Benin during the graduation ceremony with theme “CNG Conversion: A new horizon for women in the Automotive industry”, the founder of Lady Mechanic Initiative (LMI), Sandra Aguebor, said the 50 graduates will no doubt boost the needed manpower for the conversion of PMS (petrol) vehicles to those using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Aguebor stated that the women mechanics in Edo State have the potential to convert vehicles from petrol to CNG following their training and successful completion of the Lady Mechanic Initiative (LMI).

According to her, CNG is a popular alternative fuel for vehicles due to its affordability and cleaner-burning properties compared to gasoline and diesel.

She noted that the Lady Mechanics Initiative has a presence in over 20 states in the country with certified coordinators.

Aguebor said that the training and graduation aim to move women and the girl child forward, particularly by ensuring economic prosperity for their families and keeping hope alive for the girl child, who are the most vulnerable in society.

Aguebor said that the Lady Mechanics Initiative has allowed her to support the girl child through mentoring and counselling.

She said all the beneficiaries have been trained and certified as CNG Conversion technicians, adding that LMI is spreading the campaign for females to take over the male-dominated automotive industry.

Aguebor commended the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, for supporting the initiative, as well as the federal government for its commitment to the training.

Aguebor noted that the training is being jointly developed by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), the Edo State Government, and the Lady Mechanic Initiative (LMI).
