The Supreme Court of Nigeria has delivered a unanimous judgment affirming the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected governor of Edo State in the September 21, 2024 governorship election. This decision marks the final legal hurdle cleared by Governor Okpebholo, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, who had sought to nullify the election outcome. The apex court, led by a five-member panel under Justice Mohammed Garba, found no reason to overturn the concurrent judgments of both the Court of Appeal and the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

In its detailed ruling, the Supreme Court stated that the PDP and its candidate failed to provide credible and admissible evidence to substantiate claims of irregularities, including over-voting and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
