Edo APC Chair's Controversial Confession: 'We Are Okpebholo's Puppets!'

The political landscape in Edo State has recently been stirred by a fervent declaration from the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairman, Jaret Tenebe, who asserted the party’s unwavering and absolute loyalty to Governor Monday Okpebholo. Tenebe’s remarks, captured in a viral video, have sparked widespread public discourse, underscoring the party’s professed commitment to its leadership and strict adherence to the governor’s directives.

Speaking at the Edo State City Boy Employment 2025 event, a platform aimed at galvanizing support and outlining party objectives, Tenebe reaffirmed not only the party’s loyalty to Governor Okpebholo but also its total support for President Bola Tinubu. This dual pledge highlights a deliberate political alignment and a strategic vision for future electoral engagements.

During his address, Tenebe encapsulated the depth of this allegiance in a striking remark: “Our loyalty to our governor is of no break, no gear, no sense.” The phrase immediately captured attention and set the tone for his subsequent explanation.

Clarifying his statement, the APC chairman emphasized that any directive from the governor would be followed without question or debate. He justified this position by stating that the governor possesses “all the special advice and all the special assistance,” implying an inherent wisdom and authority that render internal dissent unnecessary. This framing positions the governor’s decisions as supreme and unquestionable within the party’s hierarchy.

To further illustrate the intensity of the party’s commitment, Tenebe employed a vivid and somewhat startling analogy. He likened the APC’s loyalty to a vehicle moving downhill without brakes or gears, a situation he described as “deadly.” He added pointedly, “That’s what we are as a party in this state, because we have no sense.” The metaphor, intended to depict an unstoppable and unquestioning loyalty, has since drawn varied interpretations, reflecting both admiration and concern over the chairman’s expression of devotion.

Beyond internal loyalty, Tenebe also relayed a significant directive from Governor Okpebholo regarding broader electoral objectives. He revealed that the governor had instructed the party to mobilize “massive support for President Tinubu in future elections.” Specifically, Tenebe announced that “3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu must be guaranteed and it is already settled,” signaling a firm and ambitious electoral target set by the governor to demonstrate Edo State’s strong backing for the national leadership.
