The Tema branch of the Power Queens Club of the Electricity Company of Ghana has been taken through a fire prevention seminar as part of the Club’s vision of empowering and educating its members on various issues.

The workshop, held at the ECG Tema Regional Office on Friday, March 28, 2025, featured female fire officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Women’s Club, who educated the ECG ladies on home safety practices.

The session covered essential precautions such as avoiding socket overloading, ensuring heating equipment is placed in well-ventilated areas, and never leaving open fires unattended.

The interactive workshop also gave the ladies a general overview of the operations of the Ghana National Fire Service as well as what individuals should do in case they are faced with fire situations. They were also advised to educate their colleagues and household on general safety issues to prevent accidents as much as possible.

The workshop took participants through how to use fire extinguishers. These demonstrations were done in an open space where the fire officers showed the ECG queens how to hold, aim, and direct fire extinguishers to quench fire.

Ing. Anabel Zormelo, the President of the Tema ECG Power Queens, said that “the reason for organizing this is to help educate and spread information on safety and how to prevent fires as much as possible.”

She added that “it is critical for us to be educated so we can be more intentional on common mistakes we may be committing at home, which can easily cause fires, so we can prevent accidents.”

The Power Queens Club is made up of all female workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana which aims to help in propelling and equipping female workers of the organization.
