Ebuka Unveils ‘MENtality’: A New Platform for Honest Conversations About Men’s Lives

Renowned media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu is set to launch his groundbreaking podcast, MENtality with Ebuka, a project designed to spark candid discussions about men’s experiences and emotions. The announcement coincides with his recent ThisDay Style cover feature, where he reflected on his personal evolution since leaving the Big Brother Naija house in 2006 and shared the inspiration behind his new venture.
The concept for MENtality with Ebuka arose from his keen observation of the current "manosphere" dominating podcasts and social platforms. Ebuka noted that much of this content is “fuelled by right-wing conversations about what a man should be,” prompting him to question whether alternative narratives could thrive. He emphasized the lack of inclusive discussions around masculinity in African contexts, particularly regarding how men navigate politics, culture, and social expectations.
Ebuka describes the podcast as an “opportunity for honest conversation,” aimed at countering the notion that men rarely open up. His goal is to build a platform where men can freely express themselves, challenge norms, and embrace vulnerability. By doing so, MENtality with Ebuka hopes to dismantle stereotypes that limit emotional expression among men while promoting genuine self-acceptance.
When discussing his hopes for the audience, Ebuka said his intent isn’t to persuade but to provoke meaningful dialogue. “More than anything else, I just want people to talk,” he explained. He envisions listeners engaging with each episode and continuing discussions in their own circles among brothers, friends, or colleagues asking questions like, “Did you see this episode? What did you think?” This, he says, is how real change begins.
The upcoming show will feature a diverse lineup of guests, from celebrities to thought leaders and everyday men, all sharing stories about masculinity, mental health, identity, and societal pressures. Through these conversations, Ebuka aims to foster empathy and reflection, reshaping how men’s narratives are portrayed in African media.
