Eastern Union Charges S'East Governors To Establish Security Network

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

Governors of the five Southeast states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo have been charged to launch a functional regional security network to curb the rising insecurity in the region.

The Eastern Union, a pressure group, disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with WHISTLER in the aftermath of the killings that took place at Amaku Community in Isu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State last Sunday.

There have been accusing fingers that the acts were orchestrated by herders while some accuse renegades of the Indigenous People of Biafra as being the masterminds. About thirty persons reportedly lost their lives in the incident while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.

The EU, through its National President, Charles Anike, urged Southeast governors to emulate the boldness of Southwest leaders that launched Amotekun to combat terror attacks to save their people, especially those in rural areas and farmers.

Anike said, “Why can’t the Southeast governors collaborate to jointly establish a formidable security outfit like their Southwest counterparts?

“Do we have to continue to mourn and bury our people? What special interest does any government derive from having internally displaced persons in our own country without any declared war?”

He regretted that the Ebubeagu security architecture which Southeast governors initiated had not seen the light of the day due to lack of political will.

Anike said, “The only solution is for our people to wake up from their slumber and defend themselves. They must take their destinies into their own hands, seeing that various governments and their security agencies have been compromised against our people.

“We must all understand that the first law of nature is self-defence. Nobody should convert his fellow human being to a sacrificial lamb. It’s either you fight back or find a way to escape.

“The youths of all the communities should defend their ancestral lands, otherwise they would all die as cowards.

“They must rise to the occasion to defend their parents and younger siblings. Rampaging terrorists must be made to understand that nobody on earth has the monopoly of violence.”
