Reno Omokri Claims Mission to 'Destroy' Obidient Movement

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and prominent social commentator, has publicly stated his intention to dismantle the Obidient movement, a group of supporters backing Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). In a recent interview with News Central, Omokri declared that Obi was once his political project, revealing that he played a pivotal role in Obi's selection as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential election.

"I took a vow to destroy that movement because Peter Obi was a project of mine," Omokri stated. "I was responsible for Peter Obi becoming the running mate to Waziri Atiku Abubakar in 2019. I've said this publicly. I've got the documents. I'm a meticulous record keeper."

Omokri explained that his shift in stance stemmed from alleged harassment and threats directed at him and his family by members of the Obidient movement. According to Omokri, the attacks began with online insults and threats but escalated to physical stalking and death threats, even reaching his home in the United Kingdom.

"Peter Obi's movement, Obidients, started attacking me, threatening me, insulting me. That was OK. But then they moved from myself to my family. I just had a daughter at that time. There were multiple death threats," Omokri recounted. "They came to my house in the United Kingdom. They trailed my wife and me when we were jogging. They found out my jogging route and pursued me, threatening me."

Omokri claims that Obi's failure to address the behavior of his supporters prompted him to utilize his political influence and resources to undermine the Obidient movement. He emphasized that he felt compelled to act after the threats extended to his wife and young child.

The Obidient movement has responded to Omokri's statements with criticism and defiance, asserting that his efforts to destroy the movement will be unsuccessful. The controversy highlights the intense political divisions and passionate sentiments surrounding the Nigerian political landscape.
