EACC to lead Kenya in marking African Anti-Corruption Day

Kenya is set to join other African Union (AU) Member States today, Friday, in commemorating African Anti-Corruption Day 2025.

Observed annually on July 11, the day offers Africans an opportunity to reflect on progress made in the fight against corruption, assessing both the successes and shortcomings of anti-corruption initiatives, and to chart a way forward.

This year’s theme is Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which will mark the day at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), has called on citizens to stand for integrity by fostering a legacy of accountability, transparency, and hope for future generations.

Key stakeholders from government, civil society, and the private sector will also take part in panel discussions centred on the theme.

“When we unite for integrity, we create a ripple effect that can transform nations. Today, we don’t just speak against corruption—we act for a future of fairness, justice, and opportunity for all,” the commission said.

“Every step we take today is a step toward a stronger, more resilient Africa. With every voice, every partnership, we build a foundation for lasting change. Let’s stand firm, stand united, and stand for integrity,” it emphasised.

The highlight of the event will be keynote remarks by Abdi Mohamud the EACC Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, and Bishop David Oginde, the Chairperson.

The African Union adopted 11th July as the African Anti-Corruption Day to commemorate the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) or the Convention.

To date, Forty-Eight (48) Member States of the African Union have ratified the Convention and have proceeded to put in place measures to tackle corruption such as criminalising corruption through various legislation, establishing institutions as well as engaging in corruption prevention initiatives.

To commemorate the adoption of the AUCPCC, the African Union declared 11th July as the African Anti-Corruption Day.
