EA FC 26 Unveils Legendary Icons & Next-Gen Switch Performance Woes!

EA Sports recently held an open beta for EA Sports FC 26 on the new Nintendo Switch 2, offering players an initial look at the game's performance on the console. Footage emerging shortly after the beta's August 8 launch revealed that the game runs at 30 frames per second (fps) on the Switch 2, in contrast to the 60fps found on other versions. While higher frame rates are generally preferred for their fluidity, improved motion clarity, and reduced latency, especially in fast-paced genres like competitive shooters, developers sometimes opt for 30fps to prioritize visual fidelity and higher resolutions.

This lower frame rate has caused some disappointment among fans. However, a significant positive for players is that the Switch 2 version of EA Sports FC 26 achieves full feature parity with the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions, including all the latest gameplay innovations. This marks a substantial improvement over previous EA Sports FC and FIFA titles on Nintendo consoles, which were historically stripped-back, last-generation versions with minimal technical updates year-to-year. The original Nintendo Switch, alongside PS4 and Xbox One, will continue to receive these less-featured versions of the game. EA Sports FC 26 is scheduled for release on all major platforms on September 26, 2025.

Beyond performance, EA Sports FC 26 is set to introduce a new class of Icon cards, virtually immortalizing 12 of soccer's greatest players with powerful in-game items. These Icons are essentially inducted into a virtual hall of fame, bringing legendary athletes into the game. Among the notable additions is U.S. striker Alex Morgan, who retired in 2024 after a stellar career spanning from 2008 to 2024.

Morgan's career highlights include WPS and NWSL titles, a UEFA Women's Champions League title with Lyon in 2016-17, and significant contributions to the U.S. national team, where she scored 123 goals in 224 matches, securing two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal. Her Icon card will boast a 91 OVR (Overall Rating), placing her among the game's elite. Only EA FC 26 cover star Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Spanish midfielder Andrés Iniesta will surpass her with 92 OVR Icon cards.

Joining Morgan in the 91 OVR bracket is the legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. Known for his aggressive and commanding presence, as well as his fiery temperament, Kahn played 429 matches for Bayern Munich between 1994 and 2008 and 86 for the German national team before his retirement in 2006. He is widely regarded as one of history's greatest goalkeepers, notably becoming the only goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball, the World Cup's MVP award, for his exceptional performance in Germany's run to the 2002 finals, despite playing with an injury.

The full list of new Icons for EA Sports FC 26 includes: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden, 92 OVR), Andrés Iniesta (Spain, 92 OVR), Alex Morgan (United States, 91 OVR), Oliver Kahn (Germany, 91 OVR), Toni Kroos (Germany, 90 OVR), Caroline Seger (Sweden, 90 OVR), Francesco Totti (Italy, 89 OVR), Marcelo (Brazil, 89 OVR), Giorgio Chiellini (Italy, 89 OVR), Stephanie Jones (Germany, 89 OVR), Cha Bum-kun (South Korea, 88 OVR), and Sissi (Brazil, 88 OVR).
