Passengers have been evacuated from a train near the Tay Bridge in Dundee following a fire in an engine carriage.

The railway line between Dundee and Leuchars has been closed as a result, with ScotRail saying delays and cancellations are expected on services.

Trains between Edinburgh and Aberdeen/Dundee are currently suspended, while Glasgow and Dundee services will start from and terminate at Perth.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said no casualties had been reported.

Edinburgh to Arbroath services are also suspended but Edinburgh to Perth and Glasgow to Aberdeen trains are running as scheduled.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 10:44 on Friday to reports of a fire affecting a train carriage on Dundee Railway Bridge.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the area to extinguish the fire and crews are assisting emergency service partners at the scene to fully evacuate the train.

"There are no reported casualties at this time."
