Dramatic Rescue: Rivers Police Nab Kidnap Gang, Free Captive

The Rivers State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against violent crime, successfully arresting four suspected members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate, rescuing their victim, and recovering the operational vehicle used in the abduction. This pivotal operation underscores the Command's unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state.

The incident began following a report lodged by Mr. Ikechukwu, who informed the Police that his 35-year-old wife, Mrs. Ikechukwu, had been abducted by armed men on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Mrs. Ikechukwu was attending to customers at her shop in Port Harcourt when the perpetrators forcibly whisked her away in a white tinted mini-bus. Her husband's prompt report allowed the police to act swiftly.

Responding to the report, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Rivers State, acting under the direct orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, launched an intensive intelligence-driven investigation. This meticulous approach led to the victim’s rescue and the subsequent arrest of the four individuals identified as perpetrators of this heinous crime.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Owhor Chinedu, 42 years old, from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area; Isioto Waribok, 30 years old, from Andoni Local Government Area; Maduabuchi Emeka, 34 years old, also from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area; and Joe Karachi, 28 years old, also from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, all within Rivers State.

During the operation, the white mini-bus allegedly used in carrying out the abduction was successfully recovered. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police reveal that all four arrested suspects have confessed to their individual roles in the crime, providing crucial insights into the syndicate's operations.

Despite these significant arrests, efforts remain intensified to apprehend the two remaining members of the syndicate who are currently at large. Furthermore, the police are actively working to recover the firearms that were allegedly used during the abduction, ensuring that all aspects of the criminal enterprise are addressed.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, reiterated the Command’s firm resolve to dismantle all criminal networks operating within the state. He assured residents that sustained intelligence-driven operations would continue without relent until all kidnappers and other violent offenders are brought to justice. CP Adepoju also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, promising that all useful intelligence would be treated with the strictest confidentiality to ensure public trust and cooperation in combating crime.
