Dramatic Rescue: Kano Traditional Leader Abducted, Police Foils Kidnap Attempt Amid Gunmen Shootout
Gunmen abducted Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, during a late-night attack in Garun Malam LGA, injuring five residents. A swift response by the Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes and community members, led to the unhurt rescue of the traditional leader. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and reinforced security in the area.
The Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, was recently abducted by gunmen during a late Saturday night attack on Chiromawa community in Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 PM, saw the assailants storming the community, shooting sporadically, and ultimately abducting the traditional title holder from his residence. This attack also resulted in multiple injuries to residents.
According to the Chairman of Garun Malam LGA, Alhaji Aminu Salisu Kadawa, the gunmen specifically targeted the residence of the Sarkin Noma, opening fire indiscriminately upon their arrival. The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was abducted, and in the process, five individuals sustained gunshot injuries. Three of the injured were identified as Yusif Nasiru (20), Salisu Garba (20), and Ibrahim Hassan (20), with two other victims also sustaining injuries during the chaotic raid.
Upon receiving a distress report, the Kano State Police Command swiftly mobilized tactical and patrol teams, with reinforcement from neighboring Divisions, to the scene. The objective was to track the attackers and secure the release of the abducted victim. The Police, demonstrating effective community policing, collaborated closely with members of the community, local vigilantes, and the Neighborhood Watch Corps. This joint effort led to a rigorous chase of the hoodlums.
Faced with relentless pursuit and pressure from the combined forces, the bandits were compelled to abandon Alhaji Yusif Nadabo. He was successfully rescued unhurt. All the injured victims, along with the rescued Sarkin Noma, were immediately rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention. Hospital authorities have since confirmed that the injured are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The council chairman, Alhaji Aminu Salisu Kadawa, expressed his deep concern over the unfortunate incident, having led a delegation of local government officials to the hospital to ensure the victims received adequate care. Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, lauded the prompt response of the police teams and the bravery exhibited by residents who assisted in the rescue operation, emphasizing that community cooperation was critical to the success recorded.
To prevent future occurrences, the Police Command has initiated confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam Town. Furthermore, a comprehensive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing perpetrators as investigations into the incident continue. The Command urged residents to remain calm and to continue providing credible information to aid in bringing the culprits to justice, reiterating its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across all 44 local government areas of Kano State.
