Superstar rapper Drake is currently mourning the loss of his esteemed collaborator, Tay Keith, following the producer’s untimely death earlier this week. On Friday, June 19, Drake took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute to the chart-topping producer, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 29. Drake expressed his profound gratitude on Instagram, writing, “Endless and eternal gratitude for your spirit and your contributions to this thing that we all love so much. You will be deeply missed.” The Toronto MC accompanied his message with a poignant memorial image featuring the words “In Loving Memory” and “Rest in Peace,” along with a black-and-white photo of Tay Keith framed by illustrated roses.
Tay Keith, a Memphis native, was renowned for his distinctive trap production style, cementing his legacy as one of hip-hop’s most influential hitmakers. Throughout his career, he achieved remarkable success, earning 11 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and producing four No. 1 songs. His impressive discography includes major hits like Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” and Drake’s own “First Person Shooter.” Beyond these chart-toppers, Keith also collaborated with Drake on several other tracks, such as “Nonstop,” “What Did I Miss?” and “Rich Flex.” He holds the notable record for the most No. 1s on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this decade, with a total of six.
The tragic news of Keith’s passing emerged after he was found unresponsive in his Nashville apartment during a welfare check conducted by Metro Nashville Police on Thursday. As of now, his cause of death has not been announced. His family released a statement to Billboard on Friday, confirming the passing of BryTavious ‘Tay Keith’ Chambers and stating that memorial arrangements would be shared at a later date. The family’s statement lauded BryTavious as “a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation.” They further added that “From Memphis to the global stage, he shaped countless hit records and left a lasting mark on music and culture. He was deeply committed to creating opportunities for others through his company, Drumatized, supporting emerging songwriters, producers, and artists.”
