Dragon Ball Star's Shocking 2026 Comeback Confirmed!

The Dragon Ball franchise has seen a significant resurgence since 2013's Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, with the God of Destruction Beerus remaining a central figure in Goku and friends' narrative. Initially introduced as Goku's primary antagonist in the feature film, Beerus and his attendant Whis have evolved beyond typical villains, becoming beloved characters who enjoy Earth's cuisine and observe the Saiyans' progression into god-level power. The Dragon Ball Super anime and films have further showcased Beerus's growing, albeit often unexpressed, affection for Earth and its protectors.

Jason Douglas, the English voice actor for Beerus for over a decade, is set to return to the character's destructive origins. This fall, Toei Animation will release Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, marking the third animated adaptation of the God of Destruction Beerus Saga. Described as an "enhanced" version of the arc from the Dragon Ball Super anime, this new rendition aims to more faithfully adapt series creator Akira Toriyama's vision, featuring improved visuals, reworked and entirely new scenes, and re-recorded dubbing and audio to provide a fresh experience of Beerus's awakening and his confrontation with Goku, who achieves Super Saiyan God power.

Douglas confirmed his return to the role at Big Lick Comic Con, discussing how his portrayal of Beerus has evolved over the years. He emphasized his continuous effort to capture the character's initial intimidating aura, even as Beerus has developed a more whimsical side. Douglas explained, "When I do Beerus, I still try to find that original kind of spark... that core guy, that dangerous entity, was still there and still present. And so I never wanted him to lose that edge."

He believes that the contrast between Beerus's formidable destructive capability and his more silly, everyday antics (like babysitting or squabbling over food) has contributed to his popularity. Douglas anticipates that the new series will re-emphasize Beerus's dangerous side, satisfying fans who have been wanting more of that intimidation. He also reflected on Beerus's unexpected, critical role in expanding the Dragon Ball multiverse, noting that unlike past villains such as Cell, Broly, or Frieza, Beerus served as a catalyst for exploring new universes and unlocking new levels of power for the Saiyans, as envisioned by Toriyama. Douglas drew a parallel between Beerus's impact on Dragon Ball and his character Krieg the Psycho in the Borderlands 2 video game, both becoming fan favorites that developers continue to build upon due to their breakout success.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is scheduled to arrive this fall.
