Getty ImagesDolly Parton's collection of hits on the Official Singles chart — the list of the biggest songs in the United Kingdom — runs surprisingly short. The country legend has only ever landed 11 appearances on the tally, as country music isn't nearly as popular on that side of the Atlantic as it is in the United States.
The superstar scores a surprising win this week on the competitive roster alongside one of the most famous musicians in the world, returning for the first time in well over a decade.
Parton debuts on the Official Singles chart at No. 83 this week with "Tyrant." The track is fronted by Beyoncé, who recruited Parton to appear on her first country album, Cowboy Carter. "Tyrant" was never shared as an official single from the project, and it was originally released alongside the album in the spring of 2024. The tune has recently gone viral, and is now one of the 100 biggest songs in the U.K.
"Tyrant" earns Parton her eleventh hit on the Official Singles chart and her first in almost 15 years. The last time the singer-songwriter launched a new track on the tally was in September 2011, when "Together You and I" entered and peaked at No. 67.
Parton first appeared on the Official Singles chart in May 1976 with "Jolene," which has gone on to become not just one of her most famous tracks, but one of the most celebrated country tunes in history. That song is tied with "Islands in the Stream," her collaboration with Kenny Rogers, for the honor of being her highest-rising win, as both peaked at No. 7 decades ago.
Beyoncé earns her first new hit on the Official Singles chart in a little over a year. Coincidentally, in April 2024, she debuted her version of "Jolene," which peaked at No. 8, just one spot above "II Most Wanted," her collaboration with Miley Cyrus, which stalled at No. 9. Several tracks from Cowboy Carter, including "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages," also appeared on the list.
Beyoncé has now claimed dozens of wins on the roster throughout her career.
As "Tyrant" arrives on the Official Singles chart, it also appears for the first time on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles tally. Parton is new to that list, but Beyoncé has been reaching that ranking with a variety of tunes from many different projects for decades. "Tyrant" opens at No. 17 this week.
