Veteran actor Paresh Rawal’s legal representatives, Anand & Naik, recently responded to the allegations made against the former after his abrupt decision to walk out of the Priyadarshan directorial Hera Pheri 3. After blasting interviews by the director as well as Suniel Shetty, and Akshay Kumar suing him for damages, they have now broken their silence and issued a statement for the first time since the controversy started more than a week ago.

It is to be noted that their statements come after the 69-year-old actor, on Sunday, took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to share his take on the ongoing matter. He tweeted, “My lawyer, Ameet Naik, has sent an appropriate response regarding my rightful termination and exit. Once they read my response all issues will be laid to rest.”

Hours after his tweet, Rawal’s lawyers drafted a watertight statement and issued the same to the media publications. They clarified a few missing links in the ongoing controversy. Speaking to IANS on the matter, they stated that the makers of the franchise hadn’t delivered the story, screenplay or even the draft of the long-form agreement.

Quoted by DNA, the statement read, “Admittedly, they did not deliver the story, screenplay and also a draft of a long-form agreement which was fundamental to the engagement of our client. In the absence of these and also since Mr. Nadiadwala, the producer of the original films, issued notice to our client and raised issues on the making of the film, our client chose to exit and returned the money with interest by terminating the Term sheet.”

According to the media publication, the lawyer revealed that the Bhoot Bangla actor chose to step away from the project to safeguard his interest and not ruin his relationship with Firoz Nadiadwala, producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s cousin, who had the rights to the Hera Pheri franchise. For the unversed, Kumar’s production house, Cape of Good Films, had procured the rights to the film.
The Hera Pheri franchise sees Akshay Kumar essay the role of Raju, Paresh Rawal as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte aka Babu Bhaiya, and Suniel Shetty as Shyam. While Hera Pheri (2000) also starred Tabu and Gulshan Grover, the second installment of the film, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), co-starred Bipasha Basu, Rajpal Yadav, and Rimi Sen in pivotal roles.
The first installment was directed by Priyadarshan, whereas the second installment was directed by the late filmmaker Neeraj Vora. Priyadarshan returned to the franchise as a director for the third installment.
