Fire at Makkah Hotel Housing Nigerian Pilgrims; All Relocated Safely

A fire incident occurred at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel, located on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, around 12:00 noon KSA time. The hotel was accommodating 484 Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj, who were lodged there by six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirmed the event and provided updates on the situation.
Fortunately, NAHCON reported that no lives were lost in the fire, and all 484 Nigerian pilgrims were safe and accounted for. At the time of the incident, most of the pilgrims were in Mina, fulfilling their Hajj obligations, including the symbolic stoning of the devil. The commission highlighted that the swift emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management was crucial in quickly containing the fire and preventing it from spreading throughout the building.
Following the incident, the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Usman, promptly visited the affected hotel to assess the situation firsthand. He was accompanied by NAHCON’s Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Alhaji Aliu Abdulrazak, and the Deputy Makkah Coordinator, Alidu Shutti. Professor Usman expressed his concern and prioritized the welfare of the affected pilgrims, ordering their immediate relocation.
NAHCON has since relocated all affected pilgrims to new, safer accommodations. Inspections of the new lodging were completed, and the resettlement process was initiated. Professor Usman commiserated with the pilgrims and assured them that the commission, in collaboration with the affected tour operators, would provide all necessary assistance and support to cushion the impact of the incident.
In a statement issued by Fatima Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publications for NAHCON, the commission expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah that no lives were lost. Professor Usman also extended appreciation to the Saudi emergency services for their rapid intervention and praised the cooperation of the hotel staff in managing the situation effectively.
