Diaspora advocate: research should shape policies

Renowned Nigerian strategist and diaspora advocate, Dr Yewande Aina-Marshall, has resolved to apply research to shape systems, policies, and lives.

She has a doctorate in Business Administration from Teesside University in Britain.

A professional with over two decades in strategy, governance, and public service transformation in Europe and Africa, Aina-Marshall’s latest  achievement reaffirms her commitment to building systems that work for people.

 Her research: “Project Portfolio Management: A Case Study of Nigerian Public Projects,” explores how to enhance transparency, efficiency, and execution in the public sector.

She put forward a strategic framework to improve governance across large-scale public initiatives at a time Nigeria is rebuilding institutional trust and reform critical sectors.

The university praised the research for its depth, relevance, and potential to create real-world impact, describing it as significant to African-led solutions in public administration and development.

“This doctorate is not the culmination of a journey, it’s the beginning of deeper service. I  am committed to ensuring that research is applied to shape systems, policies, and lives in Nigeria and Africa,” she said.

Beyond her professional achievements, she is an advocate for diaspora participation in national development.

Her work is a blueprint for improving project governance in MDAs—bridging academic insight with implementation.

She champions the role of diaspora talent in shaping Africa’s development trajectory.

Her career spans leadership roles in London Stock Exchange Group, Marks & Spencer, BT Group, and others.

British Council, NHS,  Microsoft, Schneider Electric, and others.
