Delhi Election Results 2025: Congress faces wipeout? ECI counting trends show 0 leads for Grand Old

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

As vote counting for the Delhi Assembly elections progresses, the Congress appears to be facing yet another electoral setback in the national capital. According to the latest trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the party is yet to secure a lead in any of the 70 assembly constituencies.

As of 10:40 am, the BJP was leading in 41 seats, while the AAP was ahead in 29. The majority mark to form the government stands at 36. If these trends hold, the BJP looks set to return to power in Delhi after over two decades, while the AAP faces a stiff challenge in securing a third consecutive term.

Despite the bleak numbers, Congress leader Vishesh Tokas remained optimistic, claiming that the party would play a crucial role in government formation. Speaking to ANI, Tokas, who contested from RK Puram, said, "Congress will get more seats than expected and I assure you that government in Delhi will not be formed without Congress party...Congress will be the king-maker in this election."

Exit polls had already painted a grim picture for Congress, with the Zee News-ICPL survey predicting the party could win between 0 and 2 seats. So far, the actual trends seem to align with those projections.

Meanwhile, AAP chief and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is leading from the New Delhi seat by a margin of 254 votes. However, several key AAP leaders are facing tough battles. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj is trailing BJP’s Shikha Roy in Greater Kailash by 459 votes, while Atishi is behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji by 1,149 votes.

The BJP has also taken the lead in Okhla, a stronghold of AAP's Amanatullah Khan, by 2,260 votes. Former AAP minister Satyendar Jain is trailing to BJP’s Karnail Singh in Shakur Basti by 2,956 votes, while ex-AAP leader Kailash Gahlot, now with the BJP, is leading in Bijwasan by 2,217 votes.

Polling for the Delhi Assembly elections was held on February 5, with a voter turnout of 60.54 per cent. While exit polls had given the BJP an edge, AAP leaders had dismissed them, expressing confidence in securing another term. With counting still underway, all eyes remain on the final results to see if Congress can open its account or face another complete wipeout in Delhi.
