Defections Loom: APC Poised to Welcome Key ADC Figures

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing his demonstrated commitment as a "lover of minorities" and the recognition accorded to the state within his administration. This significant endorsement took place on Friday at an enlarged stakeholders meeting held at the Crest Hotel, Jos, Plateau State, which saw the attendance of all critical party stalwarts.
During the meeting, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, lauded party members in Plateau State for their unwavering steadfastness and dedication to the party's growth. He highlighted the recent surge in defections to the APC as a clear testament to the party's widespread acceptance and the tangible achievements recorded by President Tinubu within his two years in office. Professor Yilwatda further disclosed that several key members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are poised to join the APC next week, with arrangements already finalized for their reception.
Professor Yilwatda emphasized the strategic importance of these defections, stating, "I can categorically tell you, by next week, I am going to receive some of the notable figures in the ADC; it is not just PDP members that are defecting into our party." He elaborated that many ADC members have expressed interest in either returning to the APC or joining anew. He confirmed that some of these prominent individuals, including serving and former governors, as well as National Assembly members, have completed their medical screenings and are scheduled to be unveiled, with initial unveilings expected next week and potentially more in two weeks' time. He also stated that the party is satisfied with its robust health and appeal, attracting a significant influx of members.
Underscoring the rationale behind the endorsement, Professor Yilwatda remarked on President Tinubu's impact: "Mr President has proven to be a friend of the minority, especially in Plateau State; he has given the minority a voice. We have reasons to support and make sure he returns in 2027." He further assured all new defectors that they would be accorded equal rights within the party, emphasizing the APC's strong belief in equitable treatment for all members.
Earlier remarks were made by the leader of the APC in Plateau State, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, who affirmed the party's unity, noting that all groups and factions have reconciled and are now focused on projecting the party forward for the 2027 election. Senator Lalong reiterated the party's firm resolve to support President Tinubu, commending his incredible performance and asserting that he merits the votes of Plateau State and the entire nation in 2027. The meeting concluded with a unanimous voice vote in support of President Tinubu's second term bid, presided over by Barrister Festus Fuanter, the former deputy national secretary of the APC.
