In an official statement released on Sunday, February 9, the investigative agency acknowledged that its digital platforms had been compromised but assured the public that swift action had been taken to restore access.

"For some moment this evening, we experienced a cyber-attack on the DCI digital platforms (X and Facebook), but have since regained full control," the statement read.

During the breach, the hackers published misleading content on the DCI’s accounts, causing confusion among social media users. However, the agency swiftly clarified that the posts were fake and should be disregarded.

"During the short period, the cybercriminals who attempted to take over the accounts posted the information captured on the screenshot below. The information is therefore FAKE and not from the DCI," the agency stated.

The DCI also confirmed that a thorough investigation had been launched to track down and hold the perpetrators accountable.

"A scrupulous interrogation into the criminal activity has been activated to bring to book the perpetrators," the statement added.

Three days ago, K24 TV announced a security breach of their official X account, which led to the loss of control over the platform.

The account, which boasts over 3 million followers, was being used for unauthorised promotions like cryptocurrency schemes and a Beyoncé fan page.

The media house issued a public statement, saying it is actively engaged in efforts to recover the account.
