Oakland police said a suspect was arrested after a patrol car was hit by gunfire early Monday.

Around 12:30 a.m., police said officers went to investigate a multi-round ShotSpotter activation on the 6000 block of Seminary Avenue.

Police said there was an officer investigating a separate incident at the same time. The officer heard gunshots while sitting in his marked patrol car, police said.

Oakland police said the officer soon realized it was his patrol car that was hit by the gunfire. He was not injured.

The officer may have been targeted, police said.

A suspect was arrested Monday afternoon.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call them at 510-238-3426.
