Dallas Mavericks Linked With 40-Year-Old Guard in Free Agency, Per Insider

Cooper Flagg may not be the only addition the Dallas Mavericks make this offseason, as they’re reportedly in the market for soon-to-be free agent Chris Paul, who has thought about retiring from the game of basketball.

According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in Paul because of his veteran leadership and experience playing at a high level.

“Do not expect Flagg to be the only addition Dallas makes this offseason, as Dallas is said to be evaluating all options to improve their backcourt right away with proven, winning talent,” Siegel reported.

“Although he has made it clear that returning to Los Angeles is certainly an option for him this offseason to be closer to his family, league sources indicate that the Mavs are exploring ways to convince Chris Paul to sign with them in free agency,” he added.

In other news, the Dallas Mavericks managed to retain one of their key role players, as they agreed to a three-year, $60 million extension with Daniel Gafford.

Gafford is fresh from a productive 2024-25 campaign with Dallas, averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.8 blocks on 70.2 percent shooting from the field across 57 regular season appearances (31 starts).

The 26-year-old center will again team up with Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II in the frontcourt as part of general manager Nico Harrison’s “defense wins championships” mantra.
